Description/achievement of initiative

To establish a marine park that will provide a framework to promote sustainable development by balancing economic growth interests such as tourism, fishing and deep-sea mining, with conserving core biodiversity and natural assets, in the ocean, reefs and islands

Implementation methodologies

1. Relevantly mandated non-government stakeholders (traditional leaders and environmental NGO) are being resourced to work in partnership with leading government agencies.2. Key stakeholders and communities are being consulted for input into the development of the overall legislative framework3. International environment organisations provide technical input and expertise

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

1. Non-government stakeholders are being resourced and will gain experience in project management and implementation2. A technical advisory group is putting together the policy for circulation amongst stakeholders.
